You Asked for It 

Polaris 7.8 prioritizes practical, staff-centered improvements based directly on community input: 

Web-Based System Administration 
Expanded support for managing hundreds of settings, tables, and permission groups—now fully accessible through a browser interface. 

Receipt Printing Improvements 
Designate a specific receipt printer and bypass the browser print dialog for faster front-desk interactions. 

Patron Import Enhancements 
Staff can now upload TRN or CSV files to create or overlay patron records, simplifying student and seasonal patron management. 

Expanded Technical Services in Leap 
Includes import profile management, improved authority and heading link workflows, enhanced duplicate detection, and the new Process EDI Invoices workform

Enhanced Notifications & Integrations 
Export reminder SMS notices, support Rapido Consortial Borrowing, and tap into foundational support for Vega Reports and Vega Mobile Worklists. 

 

 

We built it 

Web-Based System Administration 
Manage over 80 administrative tables and over 700 settings directly from your browser - including fine codes, patron codes, and default settings. 
Streamlined permission group control and easier configuration of servers.

Receipt Printing Improvements 
With an optional installed component, staff can now designate a specific receipt printer and bypass the browser print dialog-improving speed and accuracy at service points. 

Import Profile Management 
Staff can create and edit import profiles directly within Leap, reducing reliance on the desktop client and allowing for faster, more flexible record handling. 
 
Enhanced Patron Import 
Staff can now upload TRN or CSV files to create or overlay patron accounts in bulk -ideal for managing student registrations, temporary patrons, or seasonal cardholders. 
 
Additional Updates 
Includes the Process EDI Invoices Workform, now available in Leap for use by technical services teams when they need to manually trigger EDI invoice creation.

 

 

Communication Enhancements 

SMS Notices  
Polaris 7.8 introduces support for exporting reminder notices via SMS, enabling more timely patron communications. 

Voice Alert Compatibility 
The foundational tech to support Innovative Phone Alerts (voice notifications + Dial-a-Story) is now baked into the system. 


Smarter Workflows Everywhere

Enhanced authority control workflows: Link unlinked headings in bibliographic records using the Check Headings Assistant.

Duplicate detection upgrades: More configurable options during bibliographic and authority record import. 

Receipt printing: Use a default receipt printer without invoking the browser print dialog - improves service desk efficiency.
