Duke University Joins Alma & Leganto Community

Ex Libris, part of Clarivate, is pleased to announce that Duke University Libraries (Duke), one of the top ten private university library systems in the United States, has selected the cloud-based Alma library management system, and Leganto for integrated course resource lists. Duke selected Alma as the new library enterprise system because of its ability to handle the everyday work of library operations, broad interoperability with other systems, continuous development and product innovations, and proven ability to provide a high-quality user experience to library staff and patrons.

Duke, a long-time Ex Libris customer, will begin implementing Alma this fall with a focus on successfully integrating the system with their multiple technology platforms. Utilizing Alma and Leganto from the Ex Libris unified platform will help Duke University Libraries carry out their strategic plan to create platforms for scholarly engagement, teach and support emerging literacies, advance discovery, partner in research, and transform the information ecosystem.

“We are pleased that we will be able to leverage the Alma library management system for our staff and library users,” said Joseph A. Salem, Jr., the Rita DiGiallonardo Holloway University Librarian and Vice Provost for Library Affairs at Duke. “I am confident that it not only meets our needs now but will for some time to come.”

As Ex Libris continues to expand its unified platform for libraries, the organization is focused on developing products, services, and operations that help libraries better connect and engage their communities, through personalized experiences and data-driven decision making.

« I appreciate Duke’s trust in our vision and strategy, talented personnel, and ability to meet their expectations. Alma’s recognition as the top solution to serve the Duke community makes us proud, » said Yariv Kursh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Ex Libris. « Our collaborative approach with Duke and other customers has helped us enhance our services and leverage cutting-edge technologies such as linked data and generative (and nongenerative) Artificial Intelligence. »

Alma, a cloud-based library services platform, will provide Duke with a proven solution that offers flexibility. Nearly 2,500 libraries worldwide use Alma to empower staff with efficient workflows and increase productivity by unifying and simplifying the management of print, electronic, and digital resources. Alma also enables libraries to deliver high-quality user experiences to patrons with seamless access to materials, while also integrating with other library and university systems.

Leganto is a course reading list management system in use by over 300 libraries. This solution enables instructors to create and manage course reading lists more efficiently. Leganto enables linking to library resources defined in Alma, as well as non-library resources, and delivers straightforward access to other uploaded materials.
