Polaris System Administrator Basics

This course provides the Polaris system administrator the opportunity to learn principles of system design and best practices of system management. 

 

Managing Sierra Cataloging (Cataloging A – Z) 

October 22-24 – 10am – 1pm ET | 9am – 12pm CT | 8am – 11am MT | 7am – 10am PT

This workshop is designed for the cataloging manager who has responsibility for managing the bibliographic and item database workflow and materials processing and database maintenance within the Sierra environment. 

 

Sierra Python Scripting Workshop – Part 1 of 5 

October 28 – 12pm – 4pm ET | 11am – 3pm CT | 10am – 2pm MT | 9am – 1pm PT 

This course introduces Python, a computer language, along with the basics on how to install a Python client and associated programs, and general concepts on how to program using Python. 

 

Sierra SQL Refresher Workshop – Part 2 of 5 

October 29 – 12pm – 3pm ET | 11am – 2pm CT | 10am – 1pm MT | 9am – 12pm PT 

This course is an opportunity to catch up on knowledge of SQL due to a lack of use. We will revisit useful SQL concepts covered in Sierra SQL series. This is not an introduction course. 

 

Sierra Scripting for SQL Workshop – Part 3 of 5 

October 30 – 12pm – 3pm ET | 11am – 2pm CT | 10am – 1pm MT | 9am – 12pm PT 

In this class, we will run an SQL query using Python, convert the results to a CSV file, email the file and schedule for future execution. 

 

Introduction to Sierra RESTful APIs – Part 4 of 5 

October 31 – 12pm – 2pm ET | 11am – 1pm CT | 10am – 12pm MT | 9am – 11am PT 

This course introduces APIs and specifically REST APIs. In this class, we will learn what APIs are, how they work and how to use them in an interactive environment and external to the Sierra server.   

 

Sierra Scripting for APIs Workshop – Part 5 of 5 

November 1 – 12pm – 3pm ET | 11am – 2pm CT | 10am – 1pm MT | 9am – 12pm PT 

In this class, we will use much of what was learned in previous classes of this series to build a book club management system. 

 

Managing Sierra Acquisitions        

November 12-14  – 9am – 1pm ET | 8am – 12pm CT | 7am – 11am MT | 6am – 10am PT 

This workshop is designed for the acquisitions manager who has responsibility for managing purchasing workflow and materials processing within the Sierra environment. 

 

Introduction to Sierra SQL 

November 20-21 – 1pm – 4pm ET | 12pm – 3pm CT | 11am – 2pm MT | 10am – 1pm PT  

This workshop will give you the tools you need to start working with your Sierra SQL database. We will review the basics of the Sierra PostgreSQL database schema, how to connect to a database, using SQL syntax to form basic queries, and how to interact with Sierra database. 

 

Advanced Sierra SQL 

December 3-4 – 1pm – 4pm ET | 12pm – 3pm CT | 11am – 2pm MT | 10am – 1pm PT 

This workshop will expand on tools/topics covered in the basic Sierra SQL course and will provide instruction on additional advanced queries. 

 

Managing Polaris Cataloging 

December 4 – 1pm – 4pm ET | 12pm – 3pm CT | 11am – 2pm MT | 10am – 1pm PT 

This 1-day workshop is designed for the Cataloging Supervisor and Technical Services Supervisor who has responsibility for managing cataloging workflow including bibliographic and item records creation and maintenance within the Polaris environment. 

 

Managing Polaris Acquisitions 

December 11-12 – 1pm – 4pm ET | 12pm – 3pm CT | 11am – 2pm MT | 10am – 1pm PT 

This 2-day workshop is designed for the Acquisitions Supervisor Technical Services Supervisor who has responsibility for managing workflow and materials processing within the Polaris environment.
