Use Vega LX to Promote the Stars of Summer: Summer Reading Programs

We love seeing the variety of summer reading programs being offered by public libraries in the northern hemisphere—they are a wonderful way for your library to reach a greater audience and promote your wide array of resources.

Boost community awareness of summer reading programs by promoting them across multiple channels:

Discovery

Use your catalog homepage to highlight summer reading lists and displays. The recently released Vega Discover homepage editor lets you drag-and-drop showcases of related titles, saved searches, and featured authors on your homepage to increase engagement with the content.

Check out some of the ways the Miami-Dade Public Library System in Florida and the Public Libraries in Jefferson County, Alabama are promoting their summer reading picks within the Vega Discover interface:

For libraries using one of our new Kids Catalog layouts or another themed catalog, adding a showcase to the homepage is just as easy, and makes age-appropriate reading lists immediately accessible to the target audience.

Social Media

When you click a showcase on the Discover homepage, it links to a custom URL featuring the list of showcased books titles. You can copy the URL to share the showcase directly on social media or elsewhere. Patrons and staff can also create list links by clicking the “share” icon () on the Bookmarks tab in “My Bookshelf.”

Email Communications

In your regular email newsletter and other library marketing emails, you can use Vega Promote to feature your summer reading lists—and easily insert any Discover showcase into the email.

You can also use the built-in Vega Promote AI-assisted generator to help you create catchy headlines for promoting summer reading and use our free image library to find the right picture to go with it.

Plus, with LX Starter, you can add a summer reading banner or showcase to the bottom of your patron circulation notices.

Events

If you have a high volume of events supporting your summer reading programs, you can make “” a separate category of events on your Vega Program calendar. Then patrons can easily filter and generate a personalized, printable calendar of summer reading events at their local branch or for certain age groups. See our example below.

As you can see, Vega LX has the tools to spread the word about your summer reading programs, and just about anything else you want to promote.
