IUG 2026 Preconference: Accessibility training

Accessibility isn’t just about meeting requirements – it’s about designing library experiences where every patron can fully participate, whether in person or online.

As new ADA Title II requirements take effect in April 2026, this IUG 2026 preconference session offers timely, hands-on guidance to help libraries strengthen accessibility across programs, services, and digital offerings.

Through real-world examples, guided discussion, and focused training, participants will explore practical strategies for building organizational capacity and integrating inclusive practices into everyday workflows. The session emphasizes collaboration and planning, highlighting how meaningful progress can often be achieved without significant new costs.

Attendees will leave with actionable tools and skills they can immediately apply within their organizations.

This workshop is suitable for all library types and staff roles, whether you are just beginning your accessibility journey or looking to advance an established program.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand key accessibility standards
  • Evaluate their current level of accessibility
  • Implement practical, achievable solutions
  • Measure and communicate accessibility impact

Space is limited for this preconference session. We encourage you to register early and join peers from across the library community to build practical, sustainable accessibility practices.
