Hoopla BingePass gives patrons access to a wide range of digital content, from movies and eBooks to magazines, podcasts and video courses. Unlike standard Hoopla checkouts, a BingePass counts as one borrow, even when it includes a much larger collection of items.
Making that content available is only part of the experience. Patrons also need an easy way to find it. Updated Binge Pass support in Vega Discover helps libraries make those materials easier to identify and explore.
Giving Binge Pass a clearer place in the catalog
For libraries that subscribe to Hoopla and purchase Binge Pass content, the update lets you map those materials to a specific Material Type in Sierra or Type of Material in Polaris. Libraries can create a new type or use an existing one.
Once a distinct mapping is configured, patrons can use the Format filter in Vega Discover search results to narrow their search to Binge Pass content. Someone following a recommendation can find the relevant materials without sorting through other Hoopla content.
Staff can use that same format when creating showcases to highlight Binge Pass materials in the catalog. This also helps them reach patrons who may not know the content is available. While the filter supports a deliberate search, a showcase gives someone browsing the catalog an opportunity to discover something new.
Libraries can choose whether to give Binge Pass content its own material type. Existing items can remain under the default Hoopla mapping, while libraries that want a separate mapping can coordinate the change with Support. Choosing a separate mapping should coordinate the configuration changes with Support.
Clearer presentation makes it easier for patrons to find and explore Binge Pass content. It also gives staff another way to draw attention to digital content the library already provides, helping more patrons find their way into that collection.
