EMERYVILLE, Calif.—Innovative, a leading provider of library automation software that serves libraries globally, is pleased to announce the company Landskerfi bókasafna hf., Consortium of Icelandic Libraries (CIL), selected the Innovative next-generation integrated library system (ILS) solution to support up to 300 library members in the Icelandic nationwide consortium. The selection is the result of an invitation to tender issued by CIL in the European Economic Area.
Icelandic libraries have been cooperating on a nationwide basis through the Consortium of Icelandic Libraries since 2001, operating on a single catalog. The company has grown and today provides services to museums and other cultural heritage institutions in addition to a range of academic, public, special, and K-12 libraries. The Innovative ILS proved to be the best solution to meet the unique and diverse needs of the CIL, providing depth and adaptability to serve patrons and ensure patron privacy. It offers strength in functionality and configuration to successfully run libraries of all types and is replacing their Ex Libris Aleph ILS.
“By working on a nationwide level, we streamline library functions through one central system while leaving content and subscription control to our member institutions,” said Sveinbjörg Sveinsdóttir, managing director of the Consortium office. “Innovative provided a good solution architecture to address all three types of library members and give them the flexibility to evolve patron services based on the needs of their specific communities.”
The CIL also saw significant value in the investment Innovative is making in the future of the library industry. Library staff and users will have access to a complete next-generation platform. Innovative Discovery, a new search and exploration solution, transforms MARC records to BIBFRAME revealing multi-dimensional relationships between resources, people, and concepts. The result is an intuitive experience for librarians and patrons that uncovers new, unexpected connections and ideas.
By providing easy access to the depth of library resources, Innovative Discovery empowers libraries to realize the full potential of their collections. This helps drive ROI and reinforce the value of the library to patrons as one of today’s most credible and engaging digital experience providers.
“CIL sees in Innovative Discovery the chance to provide unified nationwide access to resources from member libraries, museums, cultural heritage institutions and alike, and make them findable and linkable with other data on the internet,” said Sveinsdóttir.
“This decision is a testament to Innovative’s investment in the next generation of library solutions for worldwide libraries,” said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. “The CIL serves a combination of K-12, university, and public libraries throughout the country. Innovative solutions will enable patrons and staff members to engage with the library in new ways. We’re transforming both the physical and digital experience of the library and are excited that CIL is going to be part of it.”
