Introducing the Sierra May 2026 release 

 

Innovative, from Clarivate, is pleased to announce the May 2026 Sierra release introducing enhancements designed to improve operational visibility, simplify administration, strengthen accessibility, and expand integrations across the library ecosystem. 

In this release, Sierra delivers updates across circulation, cataloging, authentication, reporting, system administration, and discovery workflows. The release includes expanded record history visibility, improved patron booking workflows, accessibility updates for both staff and patrons, new administrative monitoring tools, and expanded interoperability with Vega products and third-party systems. 

These enhancements help libraries improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and provide better experiences for both staff and patrons. 

 

What’s new in the Sierra May 2026 release

 

Improved Record Visibility and Catalog Maintenance 

  • Expanded Item and Volume Record History provides better visibility into record changes.  
  • Maintain Record Links includes updated workflows and UI improvements.  
  • Daily record link maintenance can now be run directly in the Sierra client.  
  • New authority record scoping controls improve metadata management.  
  • Scope Maintenance now includes line numbers for easier management. 

 

Enhanced administrative oversight 

  • Catalog Database Status is now available in the Sierra Admin App.  
  • Circulation Status visibility helps administrators monitor system performance.  
  • A new “System Information” tab provides expanded diagnostics and environment details.  
  • Sierra now automatically refreshes the notice file after upgrades.  
  • Updates to security certificate management.  
  • New RPM package management simplifies Linux package updates.  

 

Accessibility improvements 

  • Sierra Desktop Application accessibility enhancements improve keyboard navigation and screen reader support.  
  • WebPAC accessibility updates improve session timeout controls for users. 

 

Improved patron and circulation workflows 

  • Staff can now view and override patron booking blocks when needed.  
  • A new “Edit Notices” permission improves control over notice jobs.  
  • Library staff can manage statistical categories used for reporting in the Sierra client.  

 

Expanded integrations and authentication support 

  • SAML login forms can now be customized with library branding and guidance.  
  • Vega authentication via CAS Apereo is now supported on standard Sierra ILS environments.  
  • Additional Web Management Reports data is now available for use in Vega Reports. 
  • New API endpoints to submit requests are now available for use with Sierra ILL. 

 

Platform compatibility and security updates 

  • Sierra Desktop Application now supports macOS Tahoe.  
  • Sierra Web Admin error pages no longer expose backend technology information.  
  • Reporting permission enforcement has been strengthened for improved security.  

 

Many features require no additional licensing. Some capabilities, including ILL integrations, and certain administrative tools, may require enablement or specific permissions configured by library administrators.
