Today we launched the enhanced SkyRiver platform, designed to give libraries an affordable way to access, share, reuse and create trusted open metadata across library management systems.
We want to provide libraries with an affordable, trusted and interoperable metadata service that strengthens discovery today. By combining community open metadata sharing, institutional choice and clear governance with AI-powered record creation, SkyRiver can support more efficient workflows and help libraries prepare for future discovery models at a pace that works for them.
The enhanced platform helps libraries find, edit, export and contribute high-quality bibliographic records. Designed to work across library management systems, it supports interoperability while giving institutions choice over participation and contribution. We are working closely with library partners to develop these enhancements.
I also want to address directly any questions about the enhanced SkyRiver platform and how we source and govern the data.
Our metadata sourcing model is based on direct agreements, open licenses and selective contributions from participating institutions and other authorized sources.
Where third-party metadata is subject to restrictions, SkyRiver preserves those restrictions rather than overriding them. You can read our metadata policy here.
Using open metadata by default, SkyRiver is designed to make metadata as reusable as possible, while respecting any licensing or contributor restrictions.
Clarivate does not claim ownership of records contributed by libraries.
Libraries can evaluate and adopt SkyRiver with confidence. The sourcing and governance model is robust, and we are committed to maintaining appropriate safeguards as the platform evolves. This includes protecting restricted metadata, respecting applicable rights and contribution terms, and making relevant source and license information visible to users.
We will continue to engage with library partners and establish a Metadata Governance Advisory Group to advise on metadata policy, contributor requirements, access principles, quality standards and material changes to the platform.
