Libraries can now offer a seamless, user-friendly way for community members to register directly through the Vega Discover interface. The new Patron Registration enhancement provides a flexible, configurable approach that aligns with each library’s policies while making it easier for new users to get started.
With this enhancement, libraries can define key registration parameters, including patron type, patron codes, and default home or registering library and ensuring that every new account is created with the appropriate structure from the outset. Administrators can also control which patron account fields are required or optional, such as patron account fields including UDF fields for Polaris libraries, allowing for greater personalization and alignment with local data requirements.
The registration workflow is fully integrated into Vega Discover, included in your subscription, enabling prospective patrons to sign up directly from the library’s discovery interface. Once registered, users receive an automated email prompting them to securely set their password, creating a smooth and guided onboarding experience.

Configuration is supported at both the Consortia and Site levels, giving library systems the flexibility to standardize processes across multiple locations or tailor settings to individual branches as needed. This ensures consistency where required, while still allowing for localized control.
The result is a streamlined, efficient approach to patron registration that reduces friction for users and administrative overhead for staff. Libraries can confidently expand access to their services by enabling community members to register online, while maintaining control over permissions through restricted access settings defined during setup. By simplifying how new patrons join the library, this capability helps increase reach, improve engagement, and ensure that more users can quickly connect with the resources and services available to them.
